Hace ya unos días, publicamos un post sobre las estratagemas que siguen algunas empresas para hacer creer al consumidor que está comprando "Espárragos de Navarra" cuando lo que en realidad está adquiriendo son espárragos de Perú o de China (los principales proveedores). Os decíamos entonces que la práctica totalidad de las Denominaciones de Origen de España se veía afectada por este tipo de artimañas.
Y hoy os vamos a mostrar otro ejemplo que afecta a otra de nuestras Denominaciones más emblemáticas: la del Pimiento del Piquillo de Lodosa.
Según el Reglamento de la Denominación de Origen, la zona de producción del Pimiento del Piquillo de Lodosa comprende únicamente ocho municipios navarros cuyo epicentro es la localidad que da nombre a la D.O: Lodosa. Los pueblos en cuestión son: Andosilla, Azagra, Cárcar, Lerín, Lodosa, Mendavia, San Adrián y Sartaguda.
Pues bien. El otro día en el mercado nos encontramos este frasco:
"Casa Alicia de Lodosa. Pimientos del Piquillo"
Lógicamente el cliente piensa que son de Navarra, más concretamente de Lodosa. Pero no es así. El engaño comienza con el nombre del producto. Únicamente el pimiento acogido a Denominación de Origen y elaborado en la Zona de Producción que antes hemos visto, puede poner en su nombre "Pimiento del Piquillo de Lodosa".
Esto lo saben. Y para no cometer ninguna ilegalidad lo que hacen es poner: Casa Alicia de Lodosa, justo al lado de Pimientos del Piquillo de manera que, en el lineal del hipermercado o en la estantería de cualquier tienda, tú lo que ves es que son Pimientos del Piquillo de Lodosa.
Le damos la vuelta al frasco para ver dónde se ha fabricado:
Y aparece una dirección de Navarra, y más concretamente de Lodosa:
Pero un poco más abajo, figura la auténtica procedencia del pimiento: Perú
Desde la Denominación de Origen llevan mucho tiempo denunciando estas prácticas que lo que buscan es confundir al consumidor para, aprovechándose del buen nombre y prestigio de la marca de la Denominación, hacerle creer que se está llevando un determinado producto cuando en realidad está adquiriendo otro.
La picaresca es extensa. Algunos ponen una pegatina que simula al logotipo de la Denominación pero con otro texto; otros destacan y ponen en un primer plano el supuesto lugar de origen (Navarra, Lodosa, Mendavia, Los Arcos...) para escribir en letra pequeña y en la parte posterior de la etiqueta la auténtica procedencia: Perú, China... y otros se aprovechan de marcas que utiliza alguna empresa de la Denominación ("Cojonudos") y las adoptan para sus propios productos.
La conclusión está clara: antes de comprar un producto hay que estudiar detenidamente la etiqueta, algo que no hace más del 60 por ciento de los consumidores en España, según la Confederación Española de Organizaciones de Amas de Casa, Consumidores y Usuarios.
